Our Beneficiaries

At The Sarah Jackson Community Wish, we are proud to support a wide range of local causes and initiatives that make a real difference to people across the Otley community. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve been able to provide meaningful assistance to many deserving beneficiaries, helping to spread kindness and create lasting impact.

We’re always looking for new beneficiaries and opportunities to support our community. If you know of any local groups, projects, initiatives or causes that could benefit from our funding, we would love to hear from you — please get in touch and share your suggestions with us.

Here’s a glimpse of the impact we’ve made together so far:

Otley Larder: Food donations

In March 2024, your donations helped us deliver £500 of essentials and Easter goodies to support this vital community resource.

Otley Action for Older People: Fish & Chips

Thanks to your generosity, we provided £300 of fish and chips to older members of our community through their Lunch Clubs in April 2024.

Public Access Defibrillators group: Replacement Pads

Your contributions enabled us to donate £600 of funds towards the purchase of life-saving equipment by replacing expired pads.

Otley Bereavement Group: Annual Rent

We've funded their annual £1100 rent for their meeting space, ensuring a supportive environment for those in need.

Buttercups Softplay: Baby Items
 Your donations helped supply £100 of baby items for their no-questions-asked dropbox, supporting families in our community.
Otley, Pool, and Bramhope cluster Parent Support Group: Financial Support

With your support, we provided £1200 funds for venue hire and refreshments, facilitating essential support for parents in our area.

Primary Schools in Otley: £500 Each for SEN Support

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to donate £500 to each school to support IT provisions for pupils with special educational needs.

Prince Henry's Grammar School: £1000 towards SEN Support

In June 2024, we donated £1,000 to the PHGS 'Net Centre', a space at PHGS where SEN students can go for extra support. With this donation, the SEN department can put it towards creating a space for students that feel disregulated or overwhelmed and need a temporary safe space to go. The plan is to create a calm and inviting Net Centre with sensory equipment and SEN resources.

Steve Davey, Local Photographer: Restaurant Vouchers

Following an anonymous nomination in June 2024, we purchased vouchers for Buon Apps restaurant, Otley to local photographer, Steve Davey.

"I would like to nominate Steve for bringing a daily dash of joy to all those, including myself, who love seeing the wonderful photos he takes of our town and then generously shares on Facebook.
He's out in all weathers, before most of us have stepped out of our beds, for no personal gain other than knowing he brings a bit of brightness to the start of our day. I think he deserves recognition and thanks for sharing his gift with the people of Otley."

Local Family in Need - Holiday Voucher

Following an anonymous nomination in May 2024, the committee were able to provide holiday vouchers and spending money for a local family who were in desperate need of a break. 

Local Family in Need - Argos Vouchers

Following an anonymous nomination, we were able to provide some much-needed vouchers to help a local family make a new start and furnish a new home in June 2024.

Local Family in Need - ASDA Vouchers

Following an anonymous nomination, we were pleased to provide some Asda vouchers for a local family who are struggling to make ends meet. 

Elderly Resident of Otley: Financial Assistance

In July 2024, after a local nomination, we were able to donate funds to secure the home of a local elderly resident. After a fall and the local fire service knocking down her front door, the Wish paid an invoice from the council to secure her home before she returned home from the hospital.

Young Girl - Sensory Equipment and Defibrillator

In July 2024, the Committee took a unanimous decision to help a young girl's family reach their Just Giving target. We donated £965 to get a young girl undergoing treatment at the Leeds Childrens' Hospital to target providing funds for sensory equipment and a defibrillator for home.

Local Family - Meals & Vegetables

Following a nomination in August 2024, we liaised with JB Wilkinsons butchers and the S&B Deli in Otley to send a family in need a week's worth of ready prepped meals and vegetables to lighten the load a little.

Local Individual - House of Beauty Voucher

Following a nomination, we were thrilled to send a treatment voucher to a local lady who is caring for a relative for some much-needed TLC at the House of Beauty in Otley this August 2024.

Local Children - Summer Holiday Activities

After reaching out to Inspirations Dance, we were thrilled to sponsor three local children to attend their dance workshops and summer camps during the 2024 school summer holidays.

Otley Food Bank - Much Needed Items

Following an appeal in August 2024 on Facebook, we were pleased to be able to leave a large donation worth approx. £250 for the Otley Food Bank at Sainsbury's - one of their drop off points helping families during the summer holidays.

Otley Men's Group (OMG): Financial Support

In September 2024, we donated £500 to the Otley Men's Group. This incredible group provides crucial peer support for men facing mental health challenges and loneliness.

Local Individual - Flowers & Chocolates

Following a nomination from a neighbour we delivered flowers and chocolates to a lady who goes above and beyond to support her neighbours on a regular basis. 

Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue - RHS Subscription

In September 2024, we gifted the lovely Founders of Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue an annual subscription to RHS Gardens. They were nominated by someone in the town following their hard work and dedication in all that they do for their charity.

Bereaved Family - Restaurant Vouchers

Following a nomination from a friend, we gifted local restaurant vouchers to a local family who experienced a sudden bereavement. 

Asda Vouchers - Family in Need

In September 2024 a young family were nominated to receive some financial support given some recent struggles stemming from bereavement. We donated Asda vouchers to help support them a little.

Otley Primary Schools: First Aid Training

Our biggest initiative yet. We've teamed up with PACO First Aid in Ilkley to donate First Aid training sessions to all of Otley's Primary Schools totally £2,500. The sessions will take place in October and November 2024 in time for 'Restart a Heart Day' on 16th October 2024.

Following a nomination in October 2024, we delivered a beautiful bouquet of flowers to a local lady who has been struggling with health issues.
Family Trip to Ilkley Cinema
 
Following a nomination in November 2024, we were delighted to provide a local family with a trip to Ilkley Cinema, giving them the opportunity to enjoy some quality time together.
Otley Action for Older People Volunteer Christmas Party

In December 2024 we were delighted to donate £200 to the Otley Action for Older People Volunteer Christmas Party.

Supporting a Local Family Christmas 2024

This Christmas, thanks to a heartfelt nomination from her friends, we had the privilege of supporting a wonderful local woman, and her family during a difficult time.

With a financial donation and vouchers, we hope to bring a little extra comfort and joy to their holiday season.

Providing Essential Support for a Local Couple in Need

Thanks to an anonymous nomination, we’ve been able to support a couple in need this December (2024) by providing essential winter items, replacing their microwave, and offering Sainsbury’s vouchers to help them through December during a challenging time of personal and financial difficulties.

Recognizing a Community Volunteer in Otley

In December 2024, following an anonymous nomination, we recently had the pleasure of delivering a beautiful bouquet of flowers and an Afternoon Tea voucher for two to a very special lady in Otley. She has selflessly dedicated countless hours of her own time over the years to support her community through various church groups and local initiatives that benefit everyone.

Bereaved Mother & Daughter - Spa Trip
We were moved to receive an email from Alex in November 2024, who shared the heart-breaking story of losing her father to the same type of brain bleed that took Sarah. In her message, Alex expressed a desire to do something special for her Mum, Tracey, when the time feels right.
 
We’ve gifted Alex and Tracey a spa voucher and an overnight stay at The Bridge Hotel & Spa in Wetherby when they are ready to enjoy it.
Local Bereaved Lady - Financial Donation

This December (2024), thanks to a nomination from Otley Action for Older People, we’ve supported a local lady who recently lost her husband and is facing financial hardship. Rising costs of winter fuel and essentials make times like these especially hard, and we hope our donation brings her some comfort this winter.

Families in Otley, Pool & Bramhope Cluster - Toys

In December 2024, Over 50 new toys have been donated to us by St Vincent's Community Centre in Leeds thanks to a lady who once worked with Sarah. These gifts have been delivered to vulnerable families, in collaboration with the Parent Support Advisor for the Otley, Pool, and Bramhope Cluster.

Random Acts of Kindness: Anniversary Flower Trail in Otley

To mark the first anniversary of the Sarah Jackson Community Wish, we placed bunches of flowers around Otley for strangers to discover — spreading kindness, remembrance, and moments of unexpected joy throughout the community.

Supporting the VJ Day 80th Anniversary Community Celebration

In May 2025, we contributed £500 to help bring the community together at Pool Village Hall for a special VJ Day 80th anniversary event, celebrating peace and creating a meaningful afternoon of remembrance, connection, and joy — especially for local seniors.

Supporting “Waiting for Change” with Otley Youth Theatre

We helped fund “Waiting for Change,” a powerful youth theatre performance created with Otley Youth Theatre, Otley 2030, and Stage@Leeds, exploring young people’s experiences of growing up in a rapidly changing world.

Creating Special Memories with a Yorkshire Wildlife Park Day Out

In June 2025, we gifted Yorkshire Wildlife Park vouchers to a local family facing a difficult time, helping them enjoy a much-needed day out together and make positive memories.

Supporting Early Years Fundraising at Otley All Saints School

In June 2025, we donated £200 to support fundraising through the Knaresborough Bed Race, helping improve outdoor learning spaces for Nursery and Reception children at Otley All Saints School.

Funding Life-Saving First Aid Training for Local Children

We proudly funded more First Aid training sessions delivered by PACO First Aid, helping Askwith school pupils and home-educated children gain essential, life-saving skills in a fun and accessible way.

Free Accredited Mental Health First Aid Training

We provided free places on a 2-day accredited Mental Health First Aid course for employees of Otley businesses, in collaboration with Otley Men's Club, equipping participants with the skills and confidence to support others’ wellbeing in their workplaces and communities.

Kindness Gift for a Nominated Community Member

We delivered flowers and a financial gift to a locally nominated woman facing health challenges, helping remind her that she is supported and not alone.

Cheering Up a Community Champion

In August 2025, we delivered flowers and vouchers to a local lady nominated by a friend, helping lift her spirits during a difficult time and celebrating all she gives to the community.

Supporting Weston Lane FC’s U10s Kit

In September 2025, we proudly sponsored the U10s at Weston Lane Football Club, helping provide new kits and celebrating the local connections and memories of Sarah and her family.

Supporting Inclusive Sailing at Otley Sailing Club

In September 2025, we funded essential repairs and safety testing for Otley Sailing Club’s hoist, ensuring children of all abilities can continue to enjoy safe and inspiring sailing sessions.

More Free Mental Health First Aid Training

In October 2025, we offered additional free Mental Health First Aid training, giving more people the skills and confidence to support mental wellbeing in their communities and workplaces.

Recognising Kindness After a Road Traffic Incident

In October 2025, we delivered flowers and afternoon tea vouchers to a local lady who showed remarkable care for others following a road traffic incident, celebrating her selflessness and kindness.

Supporting a Local Family Through a Difficult Time

In October 2025, through an anonymous nomination, we provided Asda vouchers to a local family facing bereavement and financial pressures, helping ease their burden and showing them they are not alone.

Brightening the Day for Two Local Ladies

In October 2025, we delivered two beautiful bouquets to local women going through a difficult time, helping bring a little joy thanks to thoughtful nominations and the magic of The Orchard Florist.

Helping a Family Through Bereavement

In October 2025, we provided financial support to a local family following the loss of a loved one, offering comfort during a difficult time while respecting their privacy.

Supporting Student Wellbeing at Prince Henry’s Grammar School

In October 2025, we donated £200 to Prince Henry’s Grammar School to help fund resources and initiatives that support the wellbeing of students in need.

Creating a Gratitude & Remembrance Garden with Living Potential Care Farming

In October 2025, we contributed £1,350 to Living Potential Care Farming CIC to help create a Gratitude and Remembrance Garden, providing a peaceful, reflective space for the community to connect, heal, and honor cycles of life.

Supporting Homeless Hampers with Sleeping Bags

In November 2025, we donated 30 brand-new sleeping bags to Homeless Hampers in Leeds, helping them support people in need and respond to urgent community needs.

Supporting The Bridge Church Youth Club

In November 2025, we donated £500 to The Bridge Church Youth Club to fund new resources, craft activities, games, and their upcoming Christmas event, helping provide a safe and welcoming space for local young people.

The Sarah Jackson Community Wish Kindness Day

For November's (2025) National Kindness Day, we spread surprise treats and vouchers around Otley, encouraging the community to share a little kindness and nominate others to receive #alittlelove from the Sarah Jackson Community Wish.

A #LittleLove Surprise for a Local Lady

In November 2025, we delivered flowers and a House of Beauty voucher to a nominated local lady, sharing a small act of kindness and reminding the community that thoughtful gestures can brighten someone’s day.

Supporting a Local Dog Carer with a New Wheelchair

In November 2025, we donated £750 to help a local lady replace her wheelchair, enabling her to continue her beloved work caring for dogs and highlighting the life-changing impact of community support.

First Aid Training for Bramhope Guides

In December 2025, we funded First Aid training for Bramhope Guides, equipping young people with essential life-saving skills and encouraging more local groups to access these valuable sessions.

Spreading #ALittleLove in the Community

In December 2025, we delivered over 10 bouquets and local vouchers to community members who deserved a pick-me-up, showing that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Supporting the Children’s Christmas Gift Giving Tree

During Christmas 2025, we helped Bev and the Children’s Christmas Gift Giving Tree by purchasing gifts for 50 local children, spreading joy and smiles while celebrating the spirit of giving in our community.

Sponsoring Otley’s Girls Rugby Teams

In December 2025, we sponsored hoodies for Otliensiens two girls’ rugby teams, supporting young athletes and helping them feel proud and united on and off the field.

Providing Memory Bears for Local Children

In December 2025, we funded handmade memory bears for local children who lost their Dad, giving them a comforting keepsake created by a local artisan.

Supporting Private Changing Facilities at Prince Henry’s Grammar School

In January 2026, we funded six fully private changing cubicles at Prince Henry’s Grammar School, helping SEN students feel safe and confident to participate in PE and enjoy a positive school experience.

Third Free Mental Health First Aid Course for the Community

In January 2026, we ran our third Mental Health First Aid course, providing more local people with the skills and confidence to support mental wellbeing in their workplaces and communities.

A Special Treat for a Hardworking Mum

In February 2026, we delivered flowers and a Beauty Within voucher to a hardworking Mum, nominated anonymously by a loved one, as a thoughtful gesture of appreciation and kindness.
